Inspiration of Gravity:
My song gravity was actually inspired from a movie called Gravity. Starring Sandra Bullock, and George Clooney. I thought the movie really showed how little we know about space and how vast it is. It sparked my interest and became the hook of the song. The beginning:
I started the song on piano,(Graviy Piano 1.mp3) turning into a chillstep song. I was really into Blackmill at the time. With huge space like sounds, and unending reverberation. (Gravity Chillstep 2.mp3)Progression:
After reviewed by some peers I made the chorus the entrance of the song and re-designed the song to be more of a pop song than a chillstep song. (Gravity MMI 3.mp3)Pitfalls:
One of the peers reviewing my song asked to help mix the song. I accepted and was unfortunately lead down a frustrating path. The engineer was very busy with other projects. He understood my frustration and still wanted to help. He recommended I audition some courses at his college.I wrote this song about 2 years ago. Which is a very long time ago, but in between the start and release. I graduated college with an audio recording arts degree from Minneapolis Media Institute.
The ending:
My first semester of college I re-recorded vocals and got rid of the terrible auto-tune (Gravity 4.mp3)A Grammy winning teacher Paul Peterson helped me produce this song. Making the entrance larger than life and adding ear candy in the verses. I added real drums to the track and after that the song really came together. The piano was replaced with a real one to add more realism and depth to the song. It was also co-mixed and co-mastered by staff on campus. This song, to me, is a great introduction to my graduation. Every song I continue to make will be at a professional quality.
Final thoughts:
The song to me is still not perfect to my ears. Maybe someday I will remix it. The song is an astronauts experience fighting the obstacles to survive.
